I am deeply honored to have been named Vice Chair of the Legislative Committee of the New York State Bar Association Elder Law Section and am looking forward to working with the Committee and the NYS Bar Association in keeping a close eye on how proposed legislation impacts our seniors and special needs families.
The Legislative Committee is active in reviewing proposed NYS legislation and issuing opinions and recommendations to the NYS Bar, which then shares the information with members of the Legislature. The Committee also generates legislation protecting seniors and special needs families and is heavily involved in the NY State budget process, making sure that benefits for seniors remain in place.
The Elder Law section has been engaged with many issues for years, such as the Right of Spousal Refusal and Estate Recovery. That fight will continue, as will any others seeking to cut benefits or programs.
