Every year, the IRS issues its annual "Dirty Dozen" rankings of tax scams. We'd like to take this opportunity to remind taxpayers to use caution during tax season to protect against a wide and surprisingly sophisticated range of schemes, ranging from simple identity theft to return preparer fraud.
Scam artists have several different platforms today - online, in person, by email and even texts. Usually they lead with promises of lost refunds and easily gotten free money. The only ones who get the free money are the scammers. Whenever someone promises “free money,” it’s time to leave the room, and fast.
